    Defender width....

Without being near my defender......is the width measured from the outside of the body or the flares??

I would suggest from the flare would be the critical point.
Most vehicles are measured at the widest point less mirrors.
Don't forget to look up in case an awning, snorkel head or similar is a little wider at the top.

Wouldn't the mirrors be the widest part of the vehicle?

I work on the maximum width being the narrowest obstacle(often trees) I can fit through, remembering I can fold the mirrors in.

    "Width
The width limit for vehicles is 2.5 metres, excluding:

    • rear vision mirrors, signalling devices and side-mounted lamps and reflectors
    • anti-skid devices mounted on wheels, central tyre inflation systems, tyre pressure gauges
    • permanently fixed webbing-assembly-type devices, such as curtain-side devices, provided that the maximum distance measured across the body including any part of the devices does not exceed 2.55 metres."

I'm not sure how this relates to state registered private vehicles such as our Landies.
    Cheers, Kyle

Umm, dunno....looks like I need to measure the car....although I don't want to go as far as the mirrors as a was hoping the the mirror arm out at 90 degrees I can still see past my load.

This document gives me 150mm each side....of the width of a car is from the flares than all good as I won't be using it all, if it's from the body than I'm in trouble on one side....if it's from the mirrors than I'm defiantly all good.

I can't remember where I saw it but it was relating to roof rack width and I think it was from the wheel arches here in WA anyway.
