It is leaking from the hole in the middle of the pump shown here, other pics ive found dont seem to have this whole or any kind of bung/bolt/plug in this hole? Any TD5 owners able to have a look at theirs for me?

Hi All,
I recently added another defender to the collection - 1999 td5 - while i picked it up for a very good price its not without issues...
After owning it for only a few days it decided to drop its PAS fluid all over my driveway, checking it out it seems to be leaking out of a hole on the bottom of the pump itself... is this some kind of drain hole thats lost its bolt or has a seal gone internally in the pump itself?? Am i up for a new pump? trying to find a pic of a intact pump but so far found nothing showing this hole to see if its supposed to have a bolt in it.
Thanks

That hole is the drain hole in the alloy coolant pump/power steering housing/mount. Normally it is coolant that leaks out of this hole when the coolant pump seal fails. Indicates a leaking PS pump shaft rear seal IF the leak is PS fluid. Are you sure the PS fluid came out of this hole? The most common PS fluid leakage occurs where the hose/pipe from the reservoir to the pump rubs against the corner of the engine block
Thanks for the info Gazk, 100% on the leak coming from there, im the end i had a mate check it out on his to make sure something wasnt missing,, i had figured it was something to release fluid in case of a seal failure but wanted to be 100% sure before sprining 495 on a new pump! Anyway, picked up a pump from all 4x4 today and put it in this arvo, all good and working again now - the hoses all seem in good condition with no sign of rubbing, is that a d2 thing rather then defender? i found that in my search for info too.
Not to hard to change but messy and it was a bastard to get the bolts and pump to line up right with the drive piece that slots into the water pump... it would have been way easiest if i had the tools to pull the fan off too to give me some space to move.
