    OzTent RV VS Howlingmoon Wizz

    Hey

Has anyone had first hand experience using these tents first hand?

I know oz tent has a great reputation and you can find a fault in anything so it might have its flaws. But I can't find anything really about the Wizz...

The reason I'm leaning towards these two is for the act they have flat edge awnings on the front which I'm thinking of having connected to vehicle awning when I eventually get one in the mean time the tents one can act as the vehicle awning.

The black wolf is a contender but would prefer the other style due to convenience but the pack up length of the two is its major down fall for me would rather sit in vehicle, has anyone fitted an OZTent in cab?

Hi DamosD. Can't tell you anything about the Wizz but can say about the Oztent. Cook and I bought one a year ago, an RV4 to replace our Oztrail we'd had for years. First and only trip with it the it the floor split open right along the seam.
They replaced it OK after checking it hadn't been roughly used..... just one point to watch if you decide on one.
    Good luck.
    AlanH.

PS. I made a rack up from cable tray with a roller on the back so I could slide it on rather than have to lift it up by the side of the Landy.

We use the smallest Oztent, the RV1. It is the only model short enough to go across the back of the vehicle. Great set up for two, but no more. Quality has been fine, although not impressed with the reply when I queried the lack of poles with the optional side covers, I trust the advertising material has been updated since then.
We do not even bother with the side panels anymore, this keeps the set up-and-down time to a minimum, and use as per pic.
Highly recommend a ground sheet for underneath, and the optional fly if you expect more than a light sprinkle.
Can't help you with the other makes.
    Rich.

We've borrowed the BIL's Oztent a few times and it's certainly strong and tough. Disadvantages are the weight and length, so it has to go on roof rack.
    Can't comment on the Wizz.

    Oztent

I've had my oztent RV3 about 7 years and it's still going strong although a bit faded now! Been in heavy wind, rain and storms no problem at all. Had a giant centipede eat through the back window mesh once when it got trapped behind the flap! They go up so quick and love watching others put up different tents while we are finished and sat with a beer/wine. Pack up it's almost as quick. Like other tents you can sometimes get condensation depending on time of year. I've never bothered with a fly ( have been told this eliminates condensation ) but have Side/ front panels that are handy if you are staying a few days of want to get away from the flies. Generally I just use the main tent and don't bother with all the extra bits most of the time that way it's quick and perfect for one night stops. Mines transported on the roof of my 90 held down with a couple of stratchets ( Front runner) but I did put it in the car once went from windscreen (resting on dash) to rear window down the middle ( defender 90 ), made it a bit tricky to change gear. Personally I would highly recommend them, but as I said at the start I've had mine 7 years ago and I don't know if quality has changed? ( also you can buy spares if required )

I wonder how long the Wizz has been on the market

We have had a RV4 for around four years......

We haven't had any issues and with it being the kids tent, our three kids haven't damaged or broken it. They can set up and pack it up. We purchased the fly and have never had condensation. I have heard only good things about backup support.

We spent hours in the shop comparing the RV to the Black Wolf Turbo...

The only down size is the length of the RV...well it didn't bother us as we have a roof rack.

    I would recommended the RV's

Out of interest how does the bowling moon stack up in price??

Check out the "Drifter"web site. They sell and recommend the Oz Tents but from memory I think they sell and recommend better poles and guy ropes. The "Drifter" web site is also a good source for camping set up ideas.

Actually YouTube "drifter oz tent" might be more helpful. Sorry I don't know how to do the link thingy yet.

    Hi DamosD.
Actually we sold the replacement immediately to other club members as we weren't that impressed. We reckon our Oztrail has better material as in canvas not nylon stuff and doesn't take that much longer to erect.
Plus the Cook can store more gear inside if we're stopping for a couple of days. :-))
