I would have said yes but noticed your in Brisbane , so 1000kms is a bit far
There used to be a few options in 255's , I had the maxxis bighorns, then there where bfg and cooper, I've also heard toyo do their mt in that size.

						May I ask a favour...
Now that Michelin XZLs are no more I’m trying to pick some new shoes before a Simpson crossing in August. I would prefer the 255/85R16 BFGs but have the 45L rear quarter panel aux fuel tank and am not sure whether they’d be fouled by the tank.
Measurements suggest it might be a pipe dream, but if there is anyone with a 255/85R16 fitted up and lying around as a spare, I’d be grateful if I could throw it on and see whether I’m dreaming.
I’m in the Ashgrove area and would naturally come to you armed with some appropriate consideration.
Cheers
John

From what I read, the 255s scrub on full articulation with the standard suspension.

I don’t want to start the old tyre size debate but if you want to trial fit 285’s on +6 Dynamic Rims I’m in Toowoomba. I had these fitted when I still had stock suspension, there was very minimal scrubbing on the bottom corners of the rear flares, the only real issue when it was at stock height when I hit a bump in the road both sides of the rear suspension would compress equally and it would make some nasty noises, minor trimming of the lip inside the flare rectified this.
Scrubbing under full flex wasn’t to bad, front end has never scrubbed

						Thanks all
I'm not worried about scrubbing with the 255/85R16s anywhere except where the aux fuel tank is. Have seen plenty of stock 110s happily running them.
komaterpillar, your experience with symmetrical rear compression is my concern (albeit a bit differently). Quite a few bumps in the Simpson from what I understand and I won't be far off GVM. I don't think scrubbing on a fuel tank is a great idea!
I can confirm that they will touch. We got the Dolium tank modified to allow clearance of 255/85/16 bfg mt on a 2000 110 extreme.

						Thanks for the confirmation Justin.
Do you recall how much you had to take off the bottom corner at all? I thought that might be the only viable option.
It was a while back now I'm sorry. The owner of the vehicle got an engineering firm to do the mod and they did an excellent job. Iirc it was only about 40 to 50mm they removed in an arc to follow the tyre. The vehicle was rolled and the tank and lots of other bits were sold to another defender owner and then their vehicle was sold a year or so later. I haven't seen it since.

It seems as if you have your answer, but as I have 255s fitted, my spare obviously is that size as well so you are welcome to check it.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
