    2.4 tdci EGR valve

    Greetings all,

Has anyone removed, cleaned and refitted the EGR unit in a 2.4

Can this be done without removing the engine?
If so can you please explain the procedure.

Also if anyone has experience with the aerosol spray can cleaners??
What did you use and did it work?

I removed mine a couple of years ago prior to an expedition, only to find it was pristine and the problem I was experiencing lay elsewhere (VCV).
A nightmare to remove but can be done without removing too much other stuff, you'll need a 1/4" drive set preferably with a universal joint.
Would be a reasonable easy job if you remove the intake manifold first.

I made this thread a little while ago
In my opinion removing and cleaning the whole induction system while playing EGR monkey makes sense

2.4 tdci EGR / Inlet Manifold clean + VCV Replacement

Not a crazy fiddle job - some people say to attacking the lower EGR bolts from below but I found it easiest from all in engine bay

Regularly going for a long drive seems to make a big difference. It has to heat up or something to clean itself. Every time we drive the 75 minutes between Brisbane and Maleny ours goes into the cleaning cycle when we stop.

When I got mine remapped I had it disconnected and physically blocked. I also run a provent 200 oil catch can set up so egr isn't a concern.
I recomend getting it disconnected as it reduces engine life. A dirty intake leads to a dirty engine which leads to a premature life cycle

    Disconnection makes the vehicle illegal.
