2.4 engine, squeaky tinny rattling - worry!

    Hi Guys

Have a squeaky sort of tinny rattle on first start of the day. Did think it was the multi vee serpentine belt. However, finally got to doing " ye olde soape tricke" both sides, to no avail. Still noise at first start of the day.

    Any clues?

I get twitchy following D2 cardon joint "chirping" and TD5 harmonic balancer "rattle" and the subsequent $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Have just had the Deffie 09MY FOMOCO clutch system replaced - not happy camper. As previously mentioned, bad pedal! Mmmmm! Slave cylinder wouldn't bleed even with xmission removed.......and one of the clutch plate inner springs escaped from it's outer spring and was floating around inside the pressure plate. All lotsa $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

However, all feels good now. Hopefully Solihull have the problem fixed in my new bits.

While doing my initial troubleshooting, also heard lots of tales of woe regarding the Eurotrash C/L clutch slave cylinders, as in can't get a pedal following a bleed, having to take the body off to get at bell housing etc etc. LR dropping Xmission and Xfer case cheap by comparison.

Back to squeakies and rattles - anybody any clues

    Cheers

*Remove fan belt and start, see if squeak is still there, if gone id suggest its a tensioner needing replacing.
*2.4lt are prone to needing a clutch, its a Ford thing.
*You have had the clutch done, hopefully it was done properly.
*I do the clutch on a Defender TDCi (puma) for $1700 which includes a clutch kit, slave/thrust assembly, machine flywheel, I wouldnt call that expensive.
*Body off? ...huh, whaa....no, rubbish, when a new slave assembly is fitted, its the easiest one to bleed. (but to replace a slave its gearbox back as its a internal assembly)

My be nothing to do with it, but I had a squeaky tinny rattle under the bonnet with my 2013 2.2, and all it was, a loose turbo heat shroud! I tightened the bolt, and put some heat resistive silicon on the end of the shield to stop it vibrating, and it was gone!!!

If only all problems were as simple!

If it's only on start up it might not be serious, just something like a heat shield rattling because the engine is warming up.
I would lift the bonnet, start it and stand next to the engine listening carefully.

    Clutch $$

Clutch done by dealer, and with the LR's latest clutch bits - the TB previously quoted here has been superceded.

Dealer prices for labour, and genuine parts. Expensive - YEP!

Trick is, that if all done under the auspices of JLRA it has all over Australia warranty, and if for whatever reason the clutch system transmission installation craps out JLRA have to pick up the tab, not only on their standard warranty but also if that is exceeded, the ACCC statutory warranty regarding "reasonable life".

Sure I could have had it done with less expense , but try getting your local "repairer" to honour a failure 3 or 4000 miles away, and perhaps with a "not able to proceed" uplift.

Will drop the serpentine belt off and have a go.

As a bye the bye - SVX subwoofer made smell and smoke today. Shades of Lucas, couldn't catch the smoke either :0( - bit of worry looking for bad stuff under both seats.

    Cheers
