Absolutely no idea. But you are welcome to borrow mine, and Chris is willing to lend you his, so why risk it if it worries you?

I did mine on a 2 year old battery no probs. Take it for a spin beforehand if you are stressed about it. I was too excited to bother with that though haha

I have changed maps on my td5 many many times.
i have a choice of half a dozen maps and also maps for recalibrated map and maf and have never had an issue changing maps.
Battery is an Optima red top about 4 years old.
Mind you I have a nanocom 1 which doesn't appear to have some of the issues of the evo.

With a new battery fitted you really shouldn't have an issue if you follow the correct procedure.

I trashed about 5 ECUs while programing them with a Nanocom at $400 for repair or $1000 for a new one it was getting expensive
I was understandably nervous about it and always used a battery charger on supply mode I eventually figured out my Nanocom was the problem.
After much discussion with Colin I purchased another Nanocom at a discounted rate as my original was out of warranty.
Now days I just take the car for a drive hook my main and aux batteries together and have never had a problem since, if it does go wrong I can recover the ECU myself

My old Nanocom that is now an instrument on the dash had some timing issue but the new one has never faulted.
