i bought my rock sliders ( and he showed /helped me how to fit them in his worships driveway at no cost) and he put in my Xbox , moving all the Ecu/electric bits from under the seat.as well. I've looked at the pop tops and they are very nice work.
Back on topic, the reason I bought my 02 defender was that it was the last with a Salisbury rear axle , which is a fair bit stronger than the rear axles that came after that point. Yes it hangs a bit lower , but you can fit and forget a Detroit rear auto locker with hytuff axles/ flanges and combined with the traction control and a front ATB ( definitely get stronger cv's and front axles if doing this with bigger rubber)will go almost anywhere. It also has a flashable Ecu which earlier models didn't.
You will definitely want a long range tank, just remember, that if you fit the auxiliary as well it limits your tyre size to 33in max I think, also if you fit a larger 120ish litre main tank, the rear tow bar needs to be a Hayman Reece or ARB as the stock bar blocks the fitting of a larger tank.
The other thing is fit a rear wheel carrier , especially if your going to increase tyre size.
On car sales etc stockish td5's are $24-28k ,with modified ones like mine $30-35k. ( I listed them on other thread "defenders on carsales")
