    OEM antenna rattling

The OEM antenna on my Defender has got a rattle that comes on on the freeway at speed and while small is annoying .......( I hate rattles as I have an overwhelming urge to find and eliminate them )
..............looks like it's coming fom the base .......but that is well tucked up under the drivers side wing and looks awfully difficult to get to .....

any suggestions ...........thoughts on a fix ?

    [I][any suggestions ...........thoughts on a fix ?/I]

Take your beautiful almost rattle free defender first up to Bamaga then across the gulf , down to Coober pedy and across the western deserts

After all those corries the roof will rattle , the cab will rattle , the windows will rattle , your teeth will rattle and you won't hear the antennae!!!!

    You did ask for suggestions!

Well I did take it across the gun barrel ...and over the madigan.......and shook the bejesus out of it ........and quite frankly I'm totally impressed with its lack of rattles .......which is why this one irritates me ........any way I know where it is .......the base of the cylinder that holds the antenna when it is pushed fully down seems to be loose from a holding bracket right down at the bottom end ........will try to figure away to get my hand down there to put a cable tie to stop it rattling .................

I think your best bet will be to remove the inner wheel arch
Either that or the DS wing/guard whatever you want to call it

You might get access by removing the snorkel or rock catcher then removing inner air trunking that might give enough access through the air intake hole through the guard/wing

But yeah it's gonna be a squeeze

Thanks for that .....I took the little black triangle on top of the DS wing off and managed to squeeze my hand in under the snorkle piping to feel out the problem

There is a small clip bracket that holds the antenna housing in place at the bottom.
The cylinder housing had popped out of the bracket ( thanks to the gun barrel no doubt )
...so with a bit tricky manuvering of the hand managed to pop it back in .........rattle gone ....
    ......a happy easy fix

........sure is not a lot of spare room under a defender bonnet .........
