    Alternator Overrun Pulley

    Hi All,

I have a 2009 Defender 130 and I have a slight whine in it if you are giving it a bit.

Mechanical advice says that the overrun pulley on the alternator isn't overrunning but it seems that we cannot just buy a pulley and have to purchase the whole alternator.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Was there a fix apart from replacing the alternator?

    Thanks,

    Hugh

Replacement pulleys are available for some alternators but you might have to do some searching to find the part number for the one on your alternator.

As alternator over-running only occurs momentarily on sharp engine rev reduction, I wonder how the pulley can be blamed for whining at other times.
