I would leave it for the reasons you have stated. If you do, I really wouldn't do it black as the scratches will stand out.
White is right
Paint it black, you won't go back
It ain't broke, so don't fix it
Curious to see thoughts on painting an alloy tray. My alloy tray is the only silver part on the 130, o was considering painting it - at least the sides/headboard - white or maybe even black. Is this crazy, knowing that it will get scratched etc? What would you do?

I'd leave it, and if doing anything Raptor would be last on the list.
It's not as tough as it's made out to be, and once it's on there you can't go back.
It is good for it's intended purpose,
Ute tubs , but you don't want it near any fixings or detail .

I picked an alloy tray for my ute so that I would not have to worry about it getting scratched and having to repaint! Do what you like but I am glad that I went that route!
