I have stock size wheels and tyres and stock suspension, and there is no indication of any rubbing anywhere inside the wheel arch, nothing even comes close. However it always happens on a particular right hand corner near my house where some subsidence has caused a minor drop off. As I drive through the corner and the front wheels drop off the sound kicks in as soon as the suspension rebounds and continues for a few seconds then disappears entirely. This is not a sharp corner at all, steering wheel only turned about 90 degrees from centre at most.

Never happens on level road, but can almost always hear/feel it when ascending/rock crawling off road. Its not related to traction control or any other system because no indicator lights come on when it occurs.

Assuming there is no tyre contact with any part of the body, what would be an internal cause for this? Bearings/Diff?

    Many thanks!

    Dave.
My 90 has done this intermittently,(suspected it was the traction control) but always at a time when my eyes were busy elsewhere so could never tell if the TC light was on or not.
It did it again the other night, and fortunately being dark I saw the TC light come on!
The only cause I can think of is I was starting off on almost full lock, & I guess the TC sensed some loss of traction?

Very likely it is an ABS TC noise. Most likely from either excessive airgap at one of the wheel sensors or excessive wheel bearing play (which shouldn't happen in the td5 onward models as they have a stakeable locknut... if its got movement either the nut isn't tight or the bearing has failed) which can knock the wheel sensor back off the tone ring.

Try tapping the front sensors down until they hit the tone ring, then the airgap will be set as the wheel rotates.
