    Bonnet Hinges

Has anybody got aftermarket hinges on their defender (puma) bonnet. Im sick of the rattle going through the fire wall on really rough roads that I travel everyday.Ive tried rubber seals on the lower bonnet edges, but these rub the top guards paint. Its a crap design that should have been left with the series III!

Is the rubber on the hinges still in good nick?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I got sick of the bonnet rattle on my Tdi coming down the Tanami, so I purchased a set of these some years back. Absolutely no rattle now. They were expensive (about $180 at the time) but have been so worth it. I just got back from a 10,000km trip through Botswana and Namibia in a Puma and was reminded of the bonnet rattle I once had.

Mudstuff have them for $144AUD at the moment Defender Bonnet Security Hinges
Defender Tuning in Australia used to sell them too, probably still do, I just googled the image and the mud ones came up first.

There should be rubber buffers on the firewall that the bonnet comes against as it closes. These stop the rattle. I had to glue an extra layer on mine as they barely touched.

The vibrations seem to increase the radius of the bend in the curl over time. I have fixed the same with a rubber mallet.

I fitted these hinges to my Defender last week and got a very pleasant surprise
They significantly reduced engine noise in the cabin with the window open.

Having the bonnet firmly fixed to the body must somehow reduce its ability to resonate/transfer noise.
I already have the noise killer engine blanket fitted so this was the last thing I was expecting.

Anyway, no more rattly bonnet and less noise

    Thanks for the tip

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Anyone buying these? Perhaps I could tag on to split the freight? I'm in Brissie.
