Insane dash rattle in Tdi Deefer

My rattly Defender Tdi dash has been driving me insane.

Makes a rattle and there are a lot of loose wires (where dash has been cut out ready for mud console fitment hahaha).
If I hold all the wires to stop them vibrating it makes no difference at all.

If however I have my hand (weight) on the gearstick it settles right down to almost nothing.
If I grip the gearstick lower - rattle is back - so its the oscillation/vibration set up in the head of the gearstick which is significant.

As to what is actually rattling, though, is a complete mystery. Any ideas?

Oh and just to really annoy heck out of me its started rattling even when my hand is on the gearstick.. but a slightly different sounding rattle.

I'd be appreciate if anyone ahs had similar issues and might be able to suggest places to look to try to track this down....
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

My transfer knob rattles like buggery.
Wrapped some tape around the gear stick and put it back on, problem solved.
Hope it is something simple like this.

Remove rubber boot from the base of the gearsticks. Check the bolts the holds the gearstick to the top of the gearbox. Then check the linkages for the transfer case gearstick. Check all the dash mounting bolts, steering shroud bolts, fuse box and fuse box cover
