I agree with MarkM
Ive had water tanks now in three boats and two utes and I honestly cant understand why people put fillers in place.
Just back fill via your drain point using standard hose fittings - so much less mess than holding the hose into a slow breathing filler.
If you are using a pressure pump like I do on the boats, then have a tee valve piece prior to the pump and fill via that location.
With your setup weeds. Install tank with diesel fill orientated for y-filler off main fill point. Just dont hook in the final piping have it blanked off.
Have the breather installed running up the rear panel or whatever. Then from the feed location run the hose to pump or tap and back fill it as a water tank from that location.
When it comes time to convert to diesel - hook in the filler neck then route the drain to your transfer pump.
