Want to to get rid of sliding windows

    Hi All,
I am keen on replacing the sliding glass on the rear sides of my fender with a single piece of tinted glass. Anyone know if say O'Brien's Autoglass would do that. Rather than spending $700 for the Frontrunner hinged units. I'm in Melbourne.

I replaced the rear sliding glass at the rear of my 130 dual cab with a single sheet of glass. I drilled out the rivets for the window frame, took it to my local glazier who cut glass to shape, fitted into the frame for me, and then I riveted back into vehicle. I can't remember how much the glass was ... but it was very cheap relative to replacement cost. I assume its a similar set up for the 110 side windows making this possible there too?

    Hi,
I presume it has to be laminated safety glass?

A fella on here (wagon Boy - Brodie) made his own Gullwing Rear Windows and I had a close look at them and I reckon when I get some time I'll be doing the same. He used a sheet of 4 or 5mm Ally Plate to replace the window and had it cut to the shape where it fits right against the edge (hard to explain - need to see his build post). I couldn't see why u couldn't replace the Ally with a Sheet of Glass instead ??

Would it not be possible to replace the glass while the frame is still in the vehicle?

I don't recall all the details, but the frame comes apart in 2 halves, and taking the frame apart is necessary to get the old glass out.

The Australian made CSW gullwings are only $495 each.
O’Briens are notoriously expensive, you’d be better talking to an independent auto glass supplier.
You might be able to fit a full piece of glass in the original frame by replacing the tracks with a full length felt window channel, maybe a double one to fill the space.
Alternatively you could remove the frame and fit a full glass with a rubber seal similar to what’s on the small 1/4 windows at the back. That type of seal should be an off the shelf item because it’s pretty universal.

I have had a windscreen custom cut here in Sydney by Ralph Moore auto glass. You need to find the equal in Vic or give Ralph a call and ask.
Fore me he used a light green tint rear window from a Dyna truck so i had a legal stamped, shatterproof windscreen on a Lotus 7.
Make sure its good glass as things do fall against it in the back of a landy.

    Hi Murray,
I messaged Expedition center about possible fitters in Melbourne for their CSW gullwings.
Danie there suggested I contact you. Do you fit as well as supply? or can can you suggest a fitter nearer the city?
