Installed the second-hand towbar that is compatible with the long range fuel tank.

It's an ARB unit. Lable says "tow master". Require absolutely no grinding...

Big shootout to Phil @TRS. Thanks mate

More preps coming for my canning stock route 2019

spent the morning searching for a SCV and PRV that can supply in 24 hrs. Eventually sourced the parts from a Ford dealership. Been nursing a truck that is over fuelling and running rough. At idle it sounds like a tin bucket of bolts on top of an vibrating pad. The fumes are enough to spike the CO2 levels. The cascading problem solving is bringing me to a state of hatred for the old girl. Then when you think you hit rock bottom the mechanic says why not a toyota and all of a sudden i'm all defensive of the old girl. Started with a new turbo that was over boosting and removal of the EGR that was causing it to go into limp mode. As soon as i fixed that i get a fault for a fuel pressure relief valve which also throws it into limp mode. Once your PRV is triggered it needs to be replaced. Been warned that a faulty PRV often means a faulty SCV too. Well at least in my head no point putting a band aid on the problem and potentially leave the cause unattended to. All this in less than a week out from a 5 week outback Oz trip. Who needs this sort of drama on the eve of a big trip

FYI - Long Ranger will sell a HD version that has a second skin (total 6mm of steel) welded to the bottom for an extra $150. If you have the Puma the usable capacity is 120ltr. the ECU goes into limp mode before the final 7ltr is usable. I'm looking into changing the car configuration with my diagnostic tool to 80ltr so the ECU thinks there is an extra 5 ltr in the tank postponing the limp mode to access the final 7ltr. If you don't mess with the fuel pick up you will get about 95km from light to limp mode.

    Thanks.

In the beginning I thought what they mean is I will be carrying a dead weight of 7lt diesel. But seems those fuel is still usable. It's there and will still be picked up. It's just the ECU will put the truck into limp mode.

So presumably, the limp mode will improve fuel efficiency? Otherwise.....

Sent it to DPL for 75k km service.

Gotta give a huge call out regards Bruce Davis' great attitude towards customers - Bruce ordered in HD rear axles & flanges for me, at my request, but then talked me out of replacing what I had, as it wasn't really needed, hardly any slop/wear in what I had. I didn't want to leave Bruce stuck with the stock, but he wasn't worried - likes to keep a set in stock etc... What a great bloke! He could have just shut up about my gear not needing replacement and just taken my money.

BTW - I still have the original LR axles, but had fitted Ashcroft HD flanges a few years ago at about 18k km and kept them nicely greased up at intervals ever since. At the time this removed a LOT of the driveline slop I had been experiencing, clearly the original flanges were worn more than the original axles. I had asked Bruce to do the HD axle/flange replacement thinking that this is likely where some added new slop in the driveline had crept back in over the years. i.e. Had expected that the stock axles would not have lasted so well even with Ashcroft HD flanges and grease - but seems they are ok.

Front diff pinion seal had been leaking for some time, so it got a bit of loving attention too. Rego is coming up in a few weeks and I suspect I'll be asked to get the vehicle inspected before rego renewal, so fixing leaks now is timely.

Bruce also picked up an exhaust leak around the cat pipe and fixed that for me nicely, won't be having any cat problems in future.

What did you do on your Defender today ? (well, this week anyway)

Since getting the 110 up and running after a 3 1/2 yr rest in the shed, it's costing a small fortune with more to spend in the next few months.

✔️New alternator. Playing up after sitting around.
✔️30 second awning (similar to the one Numpty fitted)
✔️Traxide head/spot light wiring upgrade. I was a bit short of heavy duty cable (unsure why, but I did mount the relays on the RHS guard) but happy with kit supplied.
✔️couldn't afford LED headlights so when with the Narva 72002, a halogen bulb lenses setup with a free form rear reflector. Had Trucklight LEDS but too much dead space without light. Only realised I have WIPAC lenses once I bought the Narvas. So now need to work out if I put the LEDS or WIPAC into my Mark 2 cortina project.

Windscreen having been replaced recently, refitted the trim on the LH side of the windscreen - properly. Checked that the bolts holding the RH side of the A-frame pivot to the chassis were still tight - I found them loose in the last service (and that got rid of the noise at the back I could not find!).

Another interesting noise I found and fixed recently, which I thought was a tappet or possibly a loose timing gear, turned out to be the throttle cable from the aftermarket cruise control vacuum unit tapping against the inner mudguard.

when i fitted the LR tank i wanted to see what range until empty (limp mode). I have 8% lower gearing and adjusting for the usual 5% inaccuracy in the Odo the actual kms from light to limp mode is about 93Km. If you are running 33" rubber the Odo is pretty accurate. What you say is not quite correct and i take blame for the misleading description. When mine went into safety mode i was on a stretch of road that i couldn't pull over so drove for about 700 to 900m to pull over. When the low fuel safety feature kicks in the engine hesitates in a rude way and does it every 300m odd. From my reading of the RAVE it will shut down at some point and you can restart to proceed. I didn't understand the RAVE to imply limp mode ie 5km/hr with capped RPM like you get with a system fault ie EGR failure. I haven't tested it past shut down (nor have any interest except in an emergency). You would have to be a desperate man to be push through the hesitation and shut down to access the 4 ltr in the 'theoretical' swill tank that the ECU is working on then also the 7 ltr in the bottom of the tank due to the larger surface area compared to the factory tank. The up shot for the 2.4 is no pick up pump therefore no burning it out if you run dry, but at $2400 for a genuine high pressure fuel pump, that's expensive desperation.
