fuel pick up (sender) from 2.2 or td5 into 2.4

Might be an odd Q but my 2.4 sender is broken (another gift from the dodgy mechanic) and knowing that the 2.2 and TD5 had a low pressure pump in the sender is there merit in using a 2.2 (or TD5) is lieu. Is it a straight swap? If not, what is required to make it work. I know the TD5 had an inertia switch (no idea about 2.2). Is an inertia switch required?

    A quick price comparison: 2.4 sender unit GBP100 v's the 2.2 at GBP200.

Before someone poses the Q - The primary motivation is priming of the system on filter change. Just trying to work out the cost/benefit.

I cant answer the sender specific q however the inertia switch isnt required if you're retro fitting.
However if fitting a fuel pump powered when ign is on, I would fit the inertial switch too, it wouldnt be difficult

I would think the vehicle would already have an inertial switch you could use.

If it were me I’d put the 100quid difference towards one of these

    http://ph.parker.com/us/17583/en/car...ystems/p4202nh

I have it hooked in prior to the OEM filter
This gives you a priming pump for filter changes and fuel system servicing
    Water in fuel alarm
    Extra filtration
(I haven’t hooked up the heater unit)

Have had no issues in 20oookm with fuel restriction etc

Ta Steve. nice unit, a real step up from what i use. I have the parker-racor 2 micron with integrated pump as my primary filter.

I scrapped the 2.2 sender idea. Mechanic said i was nuts to spend money updating to the 2.2 when i have the hand pump in my current filter housing.

    Steve,

When i did some research on replacement filters i was forced to use the larger R60 (227 lph) instead of the smaller R45 (170 lph) because the Puma fuel flow rate was greater than the R45. Something to think about if you are using the version in the link that has a flow rate of 150 lph.

In a 2.4 you just fill the new filter with fuel before fitting and it should only take a few pumps for the engine to get fuel and start.
