    Re-registering a 5 seats Defender ?

    Hi All,

happy to join this merry bunch. wanted to ask, how difficult is it to change a vehicle registration and add 2 seats ? assuming this is done professionally

thank you, and sorry if it is a silly question. I did try to search and found no solid answer

Welcome to the forum - hope you enjoy the ride

Now .... a couple of questions...

    Which wheelbase is it (90 or 110 0r 130 inch) ?

If a 110 or 130, which variant is it (2 door, 4 door etc etc) ?

What seating is noted on the compliance plate ?

What date of construction is on the compliance plate ?

A photo would help as well

I am asking regarding a puma, latest model - 2013-2015 110 4 doors. listed as 5 seats in license registration.
is there a way to have that modified ?

I dont own the car yet, today I have a 99 TD5 and I am looking to upgrade.

Sorry you post is confusing as the heading indicates you want to make your vehicle a 5 seater when it already is. From your last post it seems that what you actually want to increase a 5 seater to a 7 seater - is that correct?

    7 seat defender

My 1995 110 SW was originally registered as a 5 seater.
V-quip in Melbourne, fitted a forward facing folding rear seat, engineered seat belt mounts and seat belts and did all the engineering, and sent the papers to the DMR.
It cost about $1000 from memory, in 2000. Not bad value and good service.
My children preferred the V quip seats to the back seats in the defender.

I'm sure there are other vendors around

    cheers simmo

Cheers Gary - that is true. I wanted to know is it legal to convert a 5 seater 110 to a 7 seater. I know there is no issue technically but I wasnt sure regarding the actual registration.

I should probably mention I will only be in Australia (North Sydney) in a couple of months, but the first I plan to do is get a proper carriage for the family !

Must say I completely agree with your kids ! the original TDI/TD5 rear bench is an orthopedic nightmare :-)
I have fitted a Renault Kangoo bench in my TD5 which also has ISOFIX fitted, so it is much easier.
also changed the original 2X safari "3 in a row" seats in the back to 2 forward facing Puma seats, kids love it.

so now to the next question - any one knows a vendor in Sydney who can do the work (I will not have time to do it myself this time round) and paper work ?

    Bench seats to 110 wagon

What a coincidence, I was just about to post a question of similar nature when I found this post. I am about to buy a 1999 / 2000 TD5, currently having 5 (five) seats and was thinking to adding a couple of new original manufacturers bench seats with seat belts to the rear. Now I know the original was 3 (three) seats per bench to give a total of eleven seats (not wanting the third middle seat in the front to make twelve), but I was thinking of 2 (two) per bench (4x total) to make it a 9 (nine) seater, giving a bit of elbow room to those soccer trips in between camping where they will folded up to give storage space. I am in SA so may take a trip to our local GOV office and ask the question. I was also thinking as I may be buying interstate if the requirements are easier or cheaper to get done before transfering it to SA plates. If I find any updated info, I will post here.
    Thanks...

A 110 County without a/c is six seats, 3 + 3. with a/c you lost the glove box and got a hold-all box in lieu of the front centre seat. Compliance plate should show number of seats unless it has the inwards facing rear seats in which case it will be 9 or 10 seats and the compliance plate should show MO for motor omnibus. My 1986 model does.
