    Note on Allisport Intercooler

My vehicle is 1998 130 with built on camper.I fitted a new Allisport intercooler, the larger mount beside the radiator style, mounted it in new rubbers and all looked stress free in 2013.
2015 and 35,000km later it was a cracked piece of aluminium for recycling.

Allisport of course claimed it was my fault and that his quality good enough to be used in motor sport.I suggested that he was capable of producing two different qualities.

Some people get a really good run from them, I like a few other got inferior product.

I then paid a lot more for ARE of Brendale Brisbane to make one for me, so far it is perfect.
It also has far better tube profile and thus better cooling, and the core is made in Australia thus the higher price.

On inspecting my Allisport unit his opinion was that the core was of an older design no longer used in Australia but China was using the pattern.

This is possibly confirmed in a letter to the editor in the UK magazine Land Rover Monthly May 2018 page 24. Part of which reads" the much-reported Allisport Chinese intercoolers (two both splitting on the weld at approx. 15,000 miles each) now replaced with a BAS intercooler".

My local radiator guy made a good argument to stick with the copper core. His point was that basically the ali radiator is essentially unserviceable by most mechanics as it cant be welded, whereas the copper core unit can be. He also said that the ali radiator is more prone to clogging, as its tubes are much thinner.

SO, I ended up getting a rebuilt copper core - heavy duty redback.

Does The stocker not cool enough? I only ask because the LR alloy in the D2 lasts for well over 5 years (7_10 with proper coolant changes) and is less than half the Alisport price for D2. Cheers

Gee it sounds like Allisport quality control is a bit random. What are the alternatives for upgrading Defender radiators and interciolers? made in Australia?

Just my opinion and I would agree with Andy 130 on the radiator I went for Redback CT core 4 row put together by a local radiator business its been in service for 4 years no problems.
A mate of mine went for an alloy one but had problems he to is now happy with his Redback.

The intercooler core I had to wait a while as it required was special size.

Being Australian made intercooler and radiator cores puts the price up but I think it is worth it.
