Defender 300TDI parts manual & crank holding tool.

Does anyone have a link to a parts manual for a mid 90's Defender.

My Tanami doesn't get much use but it's being used by my wife at the moment because there is a problem with her Ford Territory.
I had to do the cambelt in a hurry on Saturday (I've been putting this off for ages & ages).
While under the bonnet there were a few items that have perished with age like the bonnet 'buffers'. Basically a Phillips head screw with a rubber pad on the end at each side of the front of the bonnet. Not sure if you can buy just the rubber or you have to buy the whole thing.
Also a breather from the rocker box was starting to crack.

It started first time after sitting for months, I do charge the battery regularly but that's about all I do.
I need to check it over before I use it in anger again so a parts manual may help me look up any items that need to be replaced.

One thing I do want to make is a crank pulley holding tool, shouldn't need it for a while but need to get prepared. If anyone has one it would be handy to know the PCD of the 8mm tapped holes and a few overall dimensions of the tool. I forgot to measure up in the panic to get the job finished on Saturday.

    Hi Colin

You can find most parts in Land Rover Workshop.

If you search defender bonnet buffers in eBay there are a few options. I bought just the rubbers off 4wdindustries last year, only $8 but postage was $10!! So better to bundle ;-)
    Cheers

I have a large order I'm about to place with them so adding these will not add to the freight cost.
You'd hope they would mail something this small but I've always purchased from them in bulk so can't comment.

I have the crank holding tool(and the timing tools).
I can either measure up the tool for you, or if you can find the time, we could catch up and you could borrow it and either make your own, or just use it.
When I originally did my belt, I just used a piece of flat bar, cut at an angle and welded to give the clearance to the crank bolt. As I was doing it up it snapped at the weld(I'm not a welder! ) .. so thought, stuff it! .. getting a proper tool.
I'm in Coburg, and generally have some time on a Fridays or alternate weekends if you want to catch up for it.

In the meantime, I'll get a moment in a day or so, go fish it out of the tool collection mess in my makeshift shed and measure it up for 'ya.

    Thanks Arthur,
As I've done the timing belt now it's really for the future if I need to do it again or need to take the crank pulley of for any other reason. No rush but if you at some point you could let me have the dimensions I can add it to my 'to do' list.....

    Crank Holding tool.png

Handle on the tool I bought is about 380mm long.
This ring pattern is repeated top and bottom, with a depth from top face to bottom face of 60mm.
The top plate is 10mm plate steel, the bottom plate is about 4mm thick.
The top plate is one piece with the handle, so not a round plate ring, with a 380mm handle welded onto it.
Top and bottom ring shapes are welded together using square section 4mm plates, with 25mm holes through them.

It came with 4x M8 bolts(no nuts, so I added 4 to keep the bolts with the tool). Bolt lengths are 75mm overall, 70mm of thread and shank. 25mm of thread, but you don't really need that much thread.
Obviously the protruding thread is only about 10mm or so.
Can't remember how deep the threads in the balancer are, but when I did my flat bar bodge job, I don't think mine went in that deep, felt like about 4 or 5 turns on the two M8 bolts I used.

I kept my old worn harmonic balancer up until this tool got delivered, and it fit perfectly into the balancer, with a very slight protrusion of it's top ring from the face of the balancer.
How that affects the distance between the harmonic balancer to radiator distance, eg. for fitting a breaker bar without removing the rad!) I dunno yet. Have yet to actually use mine on the D1.
That is, I did mine without removing the rad, breaker bar and sokcet went on easily between the balancer and rad. With this tool fitted tho, that could be different, and rad may need to be removed to be able to fit the socket/bar to work the bolt.

ps. sorry about the dodgy hand drawn pic too .. I don't really have drawing/cad type software, and measurements were made with a ruler. They could be out by approx 0.5mm on the small measurements(ie. 9mm bolt holes could actually be 8.5mm or something) and maybe 0.5-1mm out on the larger diameter measurements.
    Arthur.
