Ashcroft R380 and LT230 Master Rebuild kits

Thinking of ordering these while the transfer case and gearbox is out.

Is there a better option? Anyone in Aus sell these? I see roverparts have an r380 kit but its almost $1k.

How many hours labour would I be looking at to have these kits installed?

Gear box and transfer case have almost 300k on them but no sign of wear or any noises. I just thought seeing as they are out might be a good time to get them sorted for another 200k.

I bought both from Ashcrofts and did mine. At 300k I would expect the 5th/reverse bearing is close to shagged and would reco it were it mine.....whilst doing that it makes sense to give a bit of love to the 203, I would bet the thrust washers are long gone.

I found the biggest delay in rebuilding both boxes was the inability to access the correct shims in Australia...... and have to wait for them to be delivered from the UK.

    Cheers Fubar,

As I wont know what size thrust washer to order before the rebuild should I just hold off ordering them until the machine shop tells me what I need or is this something they can tell before stripping it for the rebuild.

Ill just grab the full shim kit only about $50.

    So Im up for

    Master r380 rebuild kit.

    Master lt230 kit,
    Correct thrust washer; &
    Shims for lt230.

I wish I had just stumped up for full shim kits at the outset....you wont know whats required until you are elbows deep into the re-assembly process.

Approx 8-10 hours for the 380 ( setting preloads takes time )
Approx 5-6 hours for the 230 , plus extra for heavy duty cross pin which is worth doing, plus extra if the intermediate shaft has ovaled out the case , if it has you can get the sleeve from Ashcroft as well but you'll need to get the case machined to take the sleeve
Get the shim kits for both
