Td5 90 sitting around few years not starting, first off bought brand new battery, connected.
Replaced what i thought was a faulty ignition switch, wiring copied over from original as per pic but does not illuminate dash lights when ignition key moved across from 0-1-11 unless trying to start vehicle
Having elec problems ie no windows go up or down, fuse is dead behind gear stick for both windows, no power on fuse for window fuse.
Headlights don't work but smaller park lights do, high beam does work. checked power behind the stalk and seems to be good, power available.
ECU had oil in harness, cleaned with CRC thinking this could be the problem but all good no difference.
Fuses under driver side seat all good.
Relay (pink) behind binnacle thought was a problem took to jaycar who opened it up and said not a relay as it only has two prongs, even this was not faulty so reinstalled, think this is the relay for the headlights. Anything else i can try, there seems to be no power somewhere along the line. seems odd that both windows and both headlights do not work. cant be a simple fuse problem more a wiring issue perhaps or disconnection some where?
update of issue thus far
starter switch is brand new fitted, car battery brand new
realised i am having problems with immobiliser, managed to track down the EKA code, attempting to enter the code via the ign switch to decode and reactivate the system. the pink relay is not a relay but works well. hoping to get it started soon, changed oil, fuel and air filters so good to go.
I think its definately a immobiliser issue car cannot accept the EKA code sequence in the LR manual. Also think I'm having problems with a starting relay if i can find it somewhere. Found the immobiliser mounted behind the binnacle unplugged one of the two plugs and the red light on dash went out but did not start. If i disconnect both plugs of the immobiliser will it start? Will try this next. Any idea where the starting relay is for the Def Td5, under the driver seat or behind the gear stick main fuse panel? New ignition switch fitted but when i turn over the key, lights on dash come up, can hear the fuel pump prise but nothing no cranking at all with or without the red light 'on' for the immobiliser. Hence thinking could be a starting or ignition relay somewhere. Any further suggestions to try please.
no the dash did not light up when doing the EKA code, i have tried a number of times and have read in the manual that after 3 attempts you are locked out for 30mins.
the last digit is a 0, so thought that meant no turns but will try 10 turns to see if that makes any difference, thanks for your input
So disconnecting the two sockets from the immobilbiser did not work either, made the red light go out on the dash but did not crank or start.
I replaced all 4 pin relays (driver seat base and main fuse behind gear stick) with another relay to rule out the relay issue, no difference.
EKA code did not work replacing the '0' with 10 turns as suggested
Can someone confirm whether i need to apply the foot brake when attempting to start the Td5
Any other suggestions most welcomed.
When turning the key to start position III, lights come up on dash but nothing, no crank, no turning over of the engine, just fuel pump priming, why isn't the starter motor engaging??? Maybe a fuse problem with the starter motor, might check that next.
Need to check the starter motor terminals then, that's my next step.
Checked all relays and they appear good, working order
There is a fusible link under drivers seat for ignition, all good there
Fuel pump does prime each time on starter key location III
Key location II does not light up the dash lights as would be normal or expected
Starter solenoid does not click with starting just the fuel pump
Must check the location of the starter motor then and subsequent wiring in that area
Try earthing out the starter motor to see if it is ok, if it engages and winds the engine over you can rule out the starter motor then start checking eletrical issues. I had a similiar issue with my 200tdi hadnt been started in months ignition switch failed, replaced the switch and then found the starter motor to be completely dead wouldnt wind over at all even with a slight tap to the starter.
found power (+) on the large nut on starter motor which is all good
found nothing on trigger wire for the starter though and is covered in black wire - does this go to the negative or positive? it travels from the starter to the under seat p/side battery compartment where it just sits free unconnected. see pic of black wire alone with blue cover. (top left) shouldn't the trigger wire be connected to the ignition switch?
seems to me anyway that the trigger wire is not receiving input to trigger the starter to turn over
tried tapping the solenoid whilst attempting to start - nothing happened
