Has anyone fitted a speedi sleeve to the rear crankshaft seal?

Hi all. My year 2000 TD5 Defender is being fitted with a new flywheel and clutch and the transmission is out so I can fit some new seals.
The crank end has minor wear from the main seal. Before replacing the seal (OEM No LUF100420) I wondered if it made sense to fit a speedi sleave under it.
Has anyone done this with a TD5?
I found references in AULRO and google to speedi sleeves on other seals or other Landiy models but not the rear crank seal of a TD5.
Is it worth the cost and effort? I figured it would ensure a 100% oil tight seal and would protect the crank end from further wear in the future.
My main worry is whether the extra diameter of the speedi sleeve will damage the lip of the seal?
I'll head into a bearing place tomorrow to see what they say but wondered if any TD5 owners had any advice on fitting a speedi sleeve in this location?
    Cheers, Dan

I havent fitted one to a crankshaft before, but fitted many to industrial gearboxes in the past. If installed correctly a speedi spleeve shouldnt cause to many issues with a lip seal - the sleeves themselves are quite thin. One important tip that I would give is to use something like loctite to "fill" the air gap under the sleeve and original shaft where the seal wear is. If you dont do this the speedi can overheat very quickly, wear through and destroy the seal. I've used metal putty on shafts with severe wear and put the speedi over that.

I have to my 4bd1t, you can get a wear sleeve and seal to suit for them. No leaks at all.

That's a good tip Shane, not something I've done when I've used them

Job done. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks all. I fitted the new spigot bush (dipped in oil for a few days) then bought and fitted a 3.5" speedi sleeve. Used Devcon as recommended (the chap in the bearing shop agreed that the seal could be damaged from heat build up otherwise) and it all slipped together tightly but nicely. And, yes, I used an OEM seal fitted dry with grey sealant around the outer rubber only.
Next job before re-fitting it all is to make the Landy's sump oil tight. Always did enjoy a challenge!!
    Thanks for your help, guys.
