Indeed at the end of the day if your tyres don't grip a slippery slope then no amount of traction control aids will get you there...no friction no traction!

    Genius! ...no traction indeed.

...but the point here is that traction was actually impeded in this case by the traction control constantly preventing wheel slip on all wheels. It was the physics of braking as much as lack of grip. ie the brakes effectively came on! Traction control locked up to the point where I lost all momentum, was starting to slide backwards downhill and it to a few seconds for the brakes to uncouple. The pedal was hard. Then they freed and I was able to control braking again with the pedal.

Without traction control one or more wheels may have grappled for some grip if they’d been allowed to spin. I think traction control is good in slow or cross axle situations, but sometimes when momentum is required it can impede progress.

I haven’t used my puma in sand much yet. How does TC work for you guys on a sandy hill?

I can't say about Puma but the D2 V8 in sand is great. Traction control.does not impede (it does somewhat from stationary start IF CDL is not locked). Cheers

    Correct,I found the same.

The D2 traction control also comes on a lot quicker than the Puma in my Sig.

Last time I was on soft sand was Stockton when I didn't have a CDL.
I found TC to be a disadvantage on hills unless I changed my driving style.
Instead of flat to the floor, the key was to ease off until the offending wheel or wheels stopped spinning .
I found I could climb hills but had to be quite sensitive on the throttle.

Recently I was on Rainbow beach with CDL, and was amazed how easy it was to restart after SWMBO photos compared to my RRC with Borg Warner.
TC was no impediment on dry level sand.

The biggest impediment on sand is ESC. You don't get going sometimes unless you disable it.
    So many acronyms.

    I agreed
Back when sand dunes in Stockton was still open to public, I had a couple goes at it. my puma defender really don't like it.
Traction control always kicked in and limited the engine output. As a result,,,I say I failed 8 out of 10....

Actually my puma perform worst than a td5..

Later I just pull the abs fuse and she run just much much better on the soft sand...

For normal beach run, just lock cdl and all good.

Pulling the ABS fuse altered the TC? While the logic makes no sense to me, this would explain why my deceased ABS pump has resulted in neither ABS or TC engaging when I would normally expect them to...and why the handbrake, TC and ABS lights are permanently on.

If you TC is impeding your progress in sand - your tyre pressures are wrong!

    That simple.
