Allisport turbo hoses installed - Engine sounds louder

    Hi Everyone,

    I have a 2012 2.2l 110 Station Wagon.

I bought a set of 3 Allisport turbo hoses (the blue ones) a while ago and got the local dealer to fit them last week when the car was in for a service.
This was a proactive move based on reports of some hose failures.

What I immediately noticed when I started the engine was that the sound of the engine was louder reminiscent off diesels from an earlier era.
It sound was a sort of low frequency chug chug chug coming from the right hand side of the engine bay. It was most noticeable when I put my ear close to the air intake on right wing.

I find it difficult to believe that changing the hoses would impact this much on the engine noise?

I'll be taking it back next week for a professional opinion but would be interested in any comments from the forum of experts within our group.

    Thanks

    Kerry

I'd be carefully checking under the bonnet to ensure that any section of the hoses is not touching where it shouldn't be. Also have a look for loosened firewall grommets. The bulkhead/firewall area should be unrelated to the intercooler hoses, but something else may have been done during the service, which could have contributed to the noise.

I haven't personally had experience with silicon hoses myself, but it is probably the case that they are a bit stiffer than the rubber ones - hence they may be transmitting engine vibration to the intercooler assembly which is acting as a sounding board. This may make the engine noise a bit louder in the cabin.

    Cheers,

    Lionel

    Result :

Got to the dealer this afternoon and the extra noise had stopped - don't you hate that. Mechanic had a quick look and saw that the top of the air filter cover was not quite clipped in properly - and this was probably the cause of the extra noise. I should have checked that myself.

Yeah it would have been the top of the air box not fitted properly.
The intake noise mine made after I'd picked it up after its last service was noticeably increased.
After a quick poke around under the bonnet, this is what I found.
