    TD5 intercooler.

    Have had a hot tune inc. boost box installed in my 2001 TD5 110 ECU by Bruce Davis some time ago. Recently fitted EGT and boost gauges as we now tow an offroad van. Without the van can get to 650C without too much effort at all on 33s with standard gearing. Manageable but better not to have to keep an eye drilled to the gauge!
    I've made the decision to now fit an Allisport I/C with the prospect of knocking 60-70C off the temps. I spoke to Bruce about this and he expressed the opinion that occasionally this course of action may not drop temps. sufficiently, depending on how aggressive the tune was. Sooooo, my question is, has anyone experienced this scenario? Let's leave ceramic-coated manifolds and such out of the equation for the moment. Thanks in advance.

    650C is cold. Nothing to be concerned at those temperatures. With a TD5, an intercooler should not affect EGTs since the ECU automatically reduces fueling as the IATs increase and mass flow descreases. It should help power, but EGTs should not change.

    I just replaced my stock early td5 intercooler with a puma one (about 30% bigger), the max EGT when pushing up a hill hasn't really reduced that much, maybe 20-30 degrees, but I have noticed when letting off the accelerator the temps drop a lot quicker than they used to and they have reduced a little when driving normally. This is only a stock tune.

    But an aggressive remap of the ECU will alter these characteristics.

    I personally dont consider 650 degrees C to be cold for long term sustained EGTs with a theoretical max of 720 degrees I think its pretty high.
    I generally dont allow mine to go over 500-550 I have an Allisport Intercooler not sure if it makes much difference though.
    With TD5 manifolds the lower the better in my view

    Max is not 720. 720 is maximum continuous temperature safe for all time. 650 is not even working the engine.
