    Lights not working!

1992 200tdi.. I switch on the lights and I only get parking lights. If I pull back on the indicator stalk, high beams work and then off again when I let go. If I push indicator stalk forward, nothing.

I bought a new light switch, removed the cowl around the steering column and plugged it in. No change! Could the indicator switch be causing the problem?

    Any tips appreciated.

Is the engine running when this is happening?

    Check alternator voltage.

Check the voltage on the battery with the engine running. I had the same symptoms when the alternator was failing. Should see about 13.5 to 14 alternatorvolts with the engine running. Somewhere in mine the lights drop to parkers when the engine isn't running and it is automatic lighting shutdown.

on the 300 tdi there is a pink link module that looks like a relay in behind the instrument cluster.
If that falls out of its socket the low beam does not work.
    You may have something similar.

Why would that matter? Does the low beam shut off when the ignition is off?

My mechanic says I have power at both switches.. suggest fuse box out to check wiring at the back? Otherwise it's dash out chasing a fault on the magical blue wire?
