Move the front seat forward.
As my teenagers grow so too their complaints at lack of leg room when seated in rear passenger section.
Is there a Mod enabling the rearward placement of passenger seats, as at present when eldest sits in the back his knees are hard up against the front passengers seat.
On the last 4wd’ng trip he had to sit sideways(or manspread really wide), this of course ****es off his two brothers sitting beside him.
Aaaaah, the joys of family 4wd’ing!

Could you put spacers under the front mounts thus tilting the squab back ?

SubscriberThere was a story in LRO a while ago about a bloke who cut the front bit out of the rear wheel arches and replaced them with rubber, that enabled him to move the rear seat back quite a bit. Apparently he was able to balance the cut to enable full wheel travel.

I bought some Discovery 1 rear seats ( only cost $50.00) as my daughter has the same issue, but mainly complains of no headrest. I fabbed up some wood supports & temporarily installed them, but decided against permanently installing them after realising that I would lose up to 100mm of cargo space to get them to make more head room & legroom, plus there is a major gap at the outsides for the discovery wheel arches, so really only a comfortable 2 seater IMHO. Apparently this was remedied with the Disco 2 - I now find out. You could cut out the rear wheel arches & move the existing seat backwards if rear storage is not critical. The latching mechanism would also have to be modified rearwards. It all gets back to whether storage is more important than legroom. A further complication for me is the cargo barrier & I store 2x 10 litre diesel jerrycans under the seat which I would lose. I'll just make some headrests !!
The cut outs are as per this tutorial.

Raising the rear seat is probably easier, and would effectively give more legroom at the expense of outside view - there should be plenty of headroom.
I haven't had complaints from my grandkids, but they are not big (even the 20yo). I should mention that when I was getting the rear seat squab reupholstered recently I had to straighten the frame, which I blame on the 17yo sitting in the centre and bracing her feet against the cubby box - and pushing.

Thanks John,
Since posting I’ve found a couple of sites that raise/tilt the front of the rear seat which seems to give more legroom. I’m waiting on an email from a supplier, at this stage that’s what I’ll go for.
Cutting out wheel arches will lose too much cargo area, however, great idea.Well thought out!
Thanks for all your advice, much appreciated.
