Defender vs 80 series cargo space

Defender 110 is definitely larger inside than 80 series, also the boxy shape is easier to pack and more height in the Defender is much better for sleeping/living in with storage under bed.

80 series will use a lot more fuel and the majority will already have done high km so maintenance will be constant for both anyway. The only advantage of an 80 series travelling in Australia is that it’s a bit easier to find a mechanic who wants to work on your vehicle. Having said that, I’ve only ever been refused service on my Defender a few times LOL.

The height is not useable , unless you carrying a washing machine . I was comparing useful space , not cubic feet, You can fit 2 slide out drawers in a 80 & only one in a Defender .

I guess some people just don't like an answer that dosen't go they way they hoped. I've lived with both vehicles for considerable time.

Not usable space?? What a joke. A square load area is perfect.
We dont have draws in ours. One was fitted when we bought the car but i took it out as the runners etc took up too much space and it weighed a ton. I built my own platform with fold forward section for sleeping instead.
One big advantage also is the ability to pull the back seat out quickly. Im using locking pins rather than bolts and its about 30 seconds to have the seats out. The floor in the backseat area is also dead flat. Our Waco fridge actually sits on the floor with access by the side door. A milk crate is also a perfect fit for this floor.
Oh and re the washing machine. Never done that but did pick up our dishwasher and even our house fridge and a Vespa scooter with the 110. Not sure you would do that with an 80. Troopy sure..

Until you've experienced both , Not just looked at in the flesh or compared the specs on paper, but worked out of &/or camped out of . Plain & simple My Toyota 80 series & the 105 (basically identical) had more useful space behind the back seats than my Td5 110 station wagon.

So to conclude, the 80 series will got more friendly usable space since it is wider and the defender is a better platform for sleeping in since it is taller.

Since I have no chance to compare them both side by side, all your inputs are highly appreciated and counted, thanks!

It would be more to do with the rear door on the defender not being full width, makes it harder to pack stuff.

Hi Vern, I am a minimalist so that the stuff in my life will be in it already and I have very minimal amount of possessions. I will be living out of it and I will never have to pack stuff lol. Save me lots of rent as well.

The rear drawer will be for recovery gear and I saw some side drawer on the rear seat on the market which will be handy for food and clothes. Thanks

My BIL's 80 series uses 18 litres per 100ks, while my Defender uses 10.5. He has spent a fortune fixing his 80, while my Defender has only needed regular servicing, a clutch and a few minor things.
His 80 rattles like crazy, but my Defender is quiet.
The argument that Toyota has more dealers is invalid because dealers for all companies generally don't stock many parts and just fly them in from a capital city warehouse.
If your heart says Defender, then do it, I say.
