    Leaking injector pump

I've got a fuel leak on the injector pump of my '95 TDI 300 Defender. It appears to coming from the 12mm bolt that is in the center of the output head right in the middle of the 4 fuel lines. I recently had the injectors changed and presumably the mechanic was in and around these fuel lines when that was done. The leak started immediately after the injector replacement.

I took it back to the mechanic and they reckon it is likely leaking around that bolt but they told me it's a pump-out repair. I'm not an expert but the bit of research I've done points to this center bolt being a plug only. The port it plugs is for inserting an indicator to set the injector timing.

Before I reach in there and nip up that 12mm bolt I thought I better ask the brains trust before I do make a major mistake and damage the pump.

    Cheers

its not that pump can be 80% overhauled in situe.

if its the 12mm bolt in the middle of the 4 injector lines its got a seal on it, Dont know why the mechanics would have touched it.

I would suggest that the injector line union nuts down on the check valve bodies were tight and when they went to crack the injector lines off rather than do it properly they reached in with one spanner and the check valve body has moved and its leaking from one of those.

it might also just be a loose injector line union.

Feel free to just reach in there with the right spanners and give everything a little test nip up. just dont pull them up any tighter than you would a rocker cover bolt and you'll be fine.

You might need to crack off the injector line union first if you want to tighten up the check valve.

    best of luck.

    Thanks Dave,

All the lines seem tight. I took that centre plug out. Did my usual fix when I don't have a spare crush washer and tuned the copper washer around and tightened the plug back up. As best as I can tell the leak has stopped.

It's not a difficult job to remove the pump from the motor. I was surprised how easy it was.

I did this last weekend to replace the outer housing o ring. That was a delicate operation

Good work on fixing your leak.
