Ant at Coffs 4wd centre has one in his, he made it himself.
I think you need to class it as a roof rack and not a roll cage
Morning All,
Has anyone had luck fitting a full external cage to their 130 in NSW.
If I purchased a Safety Devices cage from the uk would it need engineering?
If I had a custom cage made would it need engineering?
and if so why don't we need to get our roof racks, winch numbers, side steps, scrub bars and ladders engineered?
Cheers, Jay

Has anyone on the forum fitted a SD cage? Surely I can't be the only one looking for the extra protection?
Google 'Shingleback offroad' he has custom made some fantastic 'roofracks' for Defenders... he is in Victoria.
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
I got an SD full cage with internal bar on my everyday 110. Previously I was building all my other cages myself but time restrictions worked against me this time. Fitting still takes several days depending if you are doing jobs like Dynamatt at the same time. I haven't mine engineered but it is marked as roof rack system on the insurance and so far I was never stopped by authorities. m
Shingleback did mine.![]()
Here is another pic
Few differences with this design compared to SD. Particular how the bulkhead fixings is managed. This is the part where most work goes in for a SD (or same design cage) were both wings have to come off. The missing rear supports and hoop behind the seats will definitely reduce the structural strength of this cage IMO. Saying that, still way better than no cage at all. m
Having just got a 130 engineered in NSW for an engine swap, LR tank (Shingleback), rear airbags and rear seating changes I am fairly sure the SD cages will be viewed as requiring certification as they mount to/through to the cab and you will need to modify the cab (ie drill holes) to fit them. There is a massive gap between what Vic and NSW expect with respect to engineer involvement with modifications. Speak to an engineer.
I'm swinging my roof rack off external bars that run down to the side steps at the front, at the rear the bars will tie into the steel frame canopy and ROPS that comes off it. Nothing touches the cab.
