I am not familiar with the td5, but they seem straight forward.
Make sure you have the geardox supported with a jack or the input shaft will bind on the clutch friction plate and spigot bearing.

						Hi community!
I am getting my TD5 engine off from Defender. All ancillaries are off, all bolts are off, even the 2 engine holdershave all the bolts off. So far the 2 components (engine and transmission) separated for about 1/2" with lots of efforts but I am getting afraid to apply more force to get the away from each other. Also, I noticed that the flywheel, which should stay connected with the transmission, is moving with the engine block instead (check video attached).
The workshop manual does not mention that suck a problem should occur nor it gives tips on how to separate the 2.
I hope someone will be able to help.T
hank you!

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
Jboot51 is right .make sure the gearbox is supported and the engine and gearbox are on an even plane (the gap around the bellhousing needs to be the same all round . The only thing stopping it will be the shaft alignment or clutch dust on the spline .unless it has cooked the shaft to the clutch plate. Either way use 2 jimmy bars opposite sides and use them alternately to walk the box out
Good luck
Oh. Flywheel will stay with engine as will clutch and pressure plate

I actually can't understand how the engine can be moved forward to disconnect from transmission as it is blocked by the two engine holders. For the engine to come out of the holders, the transmission needs to have at least 1" to freely move upwards and this does not happen. When I try to lift the engine (with the engine stands completely unbolted) the transmission remains jointed with the engine and chassis so the whole car gets lifted up.
The engine holders keep the engine from sliding even when unbolted from the chassis because it seems that they are kept from moving by the seat the are fixed in.
