    Td5 Staring issues

    Ideas please brains trust.. My Td5 130 was started the other day, moved around then turned off, then failed to start up again..no fuel pump.. checked all connections and relays, nothing obvious. happen to check the fuel/crash cut off on the firewall and it had activated, reset it, now pump is going and it is trying to start, put won't fire..any ideas? Ute is an 03 with 255 on the clock

    If its trying to start then Id try the fuel/air purge procedure first. This should be all it needs.
    Does yours have an alarm system?

    Could be immobilised,
    Try your spare fob if you have one or a new battery.

    Thanks for the info, no, as far as I know its never had a key fob or alarm as its a 130 cab chassis..
    Ill try the fuel bleed and see what goes. Its just a bit odd as the ute has not given any issues in the past 12 years..

    Td5..Still no start..flooded injection system??

    So Ive put a new fuel pump in the ute, thinking that the high pressure side of the pump could be RS? But Ive still got the same issue.. it cranks and fires, but won't run.. Ive done the fuel bleed up to 10 times, replaced filter and non return valve, and the small inline filter..
    When I crank it, it almost starts, and sounds like it will go, but nothing..have tried continuous cranking and it is blowing an enormous amount of white smoke, which is unburnt fuel.
    In the manual it says that if the bleeding sequence is carried out on a vehicle that isn't out of fuel, then flooding of the injection system will result..anyone got any ideas how to un-flood a Diesel engine??
    Next step is to put it on my float and take it to the series workshop.

    TD5's have very little compression room so if it is flooded you would hydraulically lock the engine so you wouldn't be able to crank it over anything less would just blow out when you crank it.

    Have you checked the injector harness? TD5's have a common problem where the seal on the injector harness fails and oils is blown down the harness into the ECU which causes all sorts of problems.

    I put a new injector harness in it about 12 months ago. I am starting to think I've cooked or put a charge through the ECU or crank sensor..I was welding with the ute when it wouldn't start..Ill put a scan gauge on it and see what comes up..

    If you've put a new fuel pump in and it won't start and blows white smoke it might be an issue with injector seals.
    New pump means back to factory pressure and pushes past seals and then won't fire.

    I had the same issue with mine when the fuel pump died. I replaced it and it would really struggle to start when parked on the very slight grade of the driveway.

    After injector seals had to do the FPR as well as it then became the weak point.

    Cleaning the harness can only help though

    Going..finally!

    Took the ute into the Series workshop for Johnny to work his magic, as I had run out of ideas..After much testing and head scratching, it appears that the fuel cut off had triggered the emergency throttle cutoff, frying the solenoid, that got the ute going but not very well. Tested the fuel pressure and got 1.5bar on the new pump (4bar recommended). fitted a new genuine VDO pump and all is good again.. Its likely that the original pump was infact ok, but 16years Old Im ok with replacing it..
    Don't buy $89 pumps off eBay..they are a waste of money.
    Im not sure if or how the welder on the back caused all of this as its been on there for the past 6 years, done hundreds of hours of welding and had no issues, but I will have to be more careful of the unit arking out on the tray or isolating the battery switch each time we carry out welding jobs..

    The old failing fuel pump can draw excessive current causing the issue with the relay over time
