    EGR Delete Puma 2.2

    Hi All,

I have seen simple mechanical EGR delete for a 2.2 Ranger/BT50. 2 models offered, for <MY 15 with complete blanking and one for >MY15 with flow restriction only.

    ford-px-px2-ii-ranger-mazda-bt-50-3-2l-tdci-2-2l-td-egr-blanking-plate

I have never seen this suggested for 2.2 Puma, only remap for around 100x the price. I know this brings other benefits, but for me I'm interested in keeping the intercooler internals as clean as I can, not so much in more power or response.

Does anyone have experience with something like this, or have a view as to whether it would work, or why it would work on a Ranger but not a Defender?

    Regards
    Mark

The blanking plate fits after the heat exchanger and before the EGR. It's a PITA to fit but doable. The solid blanking plate will cause your ECU to throw a fault code and will go into limp mode. The blanking plate with at least a 10mm hole will allow enough gas to pass into the EGR to not throw a fault at the same time restrict the amount of recirculation into the intake to have some positive effect. Why people do the retune is simply it turns off the EGR so no gas passes through and no need to get the tools out. If you blank it physically or by turning off the EGR, soot builds up in the heat exchanger and inlet of the EGR. If you reverse it, that soot build up goes into your intake when it breaks loose.

I'd be very surprised if you can fit this plate to the Ranger without throwing a fault code the same as the Defender. The ECU and emissions on both engines are the same.

It would make the vehicle unroadworthy and could have insurance implications.

egr gasses don't pass through the intercooler, only crank case vapour , fit a provent if you want to keep the intercooler clean .

I inquired about a Provent and was told the design of the engine was so good that a Provent was unnecessary.

I am not sure about that.
I find the tdci engines low quality but maybe that's just me

The prevent in my defender 2.2 can collect quite a bit....close to 50ml per 1k kms. Rust at some places on the engine. The engine block for example, not painted. There is a factory " provent"(crankcase breather filter) build in , but obviously incefficient.

I also have a prevent 200 in my pajero. 4m41 3.2 liter diesel engine. The prevent barely collected anything. Less than 2ml per 1k kms. The pajero had 180 kms on her.

4m4 engine is old school.came out in the 90s I think, the same era of td42 but long live the 4m4. And also it feels way more powerful and smooth. Now you probably won't need a prevent on the 4m41....but on a Ford tdci, a different story

    Cheers
