This is what happened to mine my 13 puma defender
The 10as self ignited, producing tons of smoke in the cabin.
The once the 10as was dead, there is no way you can start the car. My defender ended up towed from a underground parking (just imagine it Haha
My defender barely fits the car park.
So in a nutshell, you can disable the immobilizer via diagnostic tool and you can also start the car without the key fob (aka bypass the imobiliser). But these all depend on a functioning 10as (alarm, immobilizer and central locking unit).
If the 10as is not working, the engine won't start on a puma defender. Unless you change the ecu coding
Btw the puma black 10as is known to fail. The later my14 puma defender has an updated unit. This updated unit was fitted to my defender as a repair.

Hi.
The hand book has a section on replacing/disconnecting the battery which resets security.
From memory....
Loosen negative.
Windows up, doors closed,everything off, key out.
Key in, turn on, 7seconds, turn off, key out, remove negative.
Wait a few minutes.
Reconnect neutral.
It should now start.
If you have the book - read the instructions, and follow them. I may have missed something. Haven't had to do it for many years.

I had ongoing immobiliser issues for years with my 2.4 PUMA. I had it at a Land Rover Dealership near me in Sydney that told me I needed a new immobiliser which they fitted for around $4K however the fault remained. I would start the vehicle and it would stall. Trying to restart would not work until I took the key from the ignition, locked the doors with the fob, waited for the red light to stop flashing and then reopening the doors reinserting the key and starting the vehicle.Quote:
