I had the dash out of my 2.4 puma recently to do the aircon and some bits, The immobilizer im guessing is the green box on the firewall it would be a massive pain in the ass to get to it out bush if it failed and the most likely thing would be stopping the car starting im guessing. Esp given the crap quick change you need to do with the FOB batteries.

For me it was a fear of losing / damaging the fobs.

10AS unit up behind instrument pack. Drop the RHS speaker and view up and forward. The green module with the two plugs is visible. If there is a black module that is a unit used by LR after the 10AS ran out..............apparently the chip in that is worse.

The speaker is retained by those mongrel 6 point speed screws. I removed those and use plain philips.

This is what happened to mine my 13 puma defender

The 10as self ignited, producing tons of smoke in the cabin.
The once the 10as was dead, there is no way you can start the car. My defender ended up towed from a underground parking (just imagine it Haha
My defender barely fits the car park.

So in a nutshell, you can disable the immobilizer via diagnostic tool and you can also start the car without the key fob (aka bypass the imobiliser). But these all depend on a functioning 10as (alarm, immobilizer and central locking unit).

If the 10as is not working, the engine won't start on a puma defender. Unless you change the ecu coding

Btw the puma black 10as is known to fail. The later my14 puma defender has an updated unit. This updated unit was fitted to my defender as a repair.

Mobilised Anti-theft system defender puma 2011

I accidentally triggered the anti theft system when I activated the central locking, not realising that the passenger door was not closed. Only found out the following morning, by which time I could not start the vehicle. Unfortunately, the door lock has been jimmied leaving it unusable. Has anyone got some advice for me pleeease! Don't know what to do!

    Advice on what specifically?

The immobiliser or the door lock?

    Hi.
The hand book has a section on replacing/disconnecting the battery which resets security.
    From memory....
    Loosen negative.
Windows up, doors closed, everything off, key out.
Key in, turn on, 7seconds, turn off, key out, remove negative.
    Wait a few minutes.
    Reconnect neutral.
    It should now start.
If you have the book - read the instructions, and follow them. I may have missed something. Haven't had to do it for many years.
    Cheers

    Immobiliser problem solved for good

I had ongoing immobiliser issues for years with my 2.4 PUMA. I had it at a Land Rover Dealership near me in Sydney that told me I needed a new immobiliser which they fitted for around $4K however the fault remained. I would start the vehicle and it would stall. Trying to restart would not work until I took the key from the ignition, locked the doors with the fob, waited for the red light to stop flashing and then reopening the doors reinserting the key and starting the vehicle.

This worked for a time then you needed to go through the process just mentioned multiple times until it would not work at all and had to be towed. I had a thread on AULRO which went for a couple of years with all sorts of fixes including all the ones I have read on your thread below. None of these cured the issue, including using my NANOCOM unit I was about to give up hope when a mate with a Discovery told me about a fellow who reckoned he could immobilise the immobiliser for good. I went to see him and after less than 10 minutes with his unit plugged into my ECU port it was gone. It has been over a year and I have done remote trips including 18,000 klms across the centre to WA and all through WA and then back to NSW with no issues. If you PM me I can give you his details. He also does all manner of Land Rover repairs. I could not recommend him highly enough.
