RRC front diff and axles into County

    Hi,

I'm under the impression that pretty much all of the front diffs on early (pre '95) Land Rovers and Range Rovers are interchangeable. I'm thinking about buying a front air locker from an early Rangie and was wondering if it was just a drop in exercise ?

    Cheers,

    Mark

Should be ok but there are a few things you have to watch out for. You will have to check that the axle spline count is the same as yours and another thing to watch is some of the early RR diff housings only had a 6 stud pattern where the ball joint bolts to the axle housing. If the donor housing is 7 bolt you should be able to bolt your ball joints straight up to it.

Great, thanks I'll double check the number of bolts. So if the spline count is the same I should be ok with just swapping the centre then ?

    yes,

and generally, if you get the whole front axle you can swap halfshafts and CV's to get it to work in your front axle.

I'm looking at buying the whole assembly. Eventually I'll upgrade the CV's and halfshafts but for now I was planning on sticking with the original County CVs which I believe are stronger.

Just make sure you have a filler hole in the diff. Some had the hole in the nose and some in the back.
