    Turbo vanes rubbing on housing..?

    Hi all,
    Doing a few things on the defender today, decided to have a look at the turbo. Small amount of shaft play but not excessive. However looking at the housing, it appears the vanes have been rubbing on the housing?? Or is this how they all look? What are your thoughts?
    No real noise to speak of, bit of oil being let through but not a huge amount. 290k and running well.

    they all look a little like that.

    where the impeller blades pass close to the housing everthing gets scoured a little by the turbulant air near the tips of the blades.

    Its when the blades start to look scratched on the ends and there are gouges on the housing you have to really worry, also check the in and out play..

    Here’s a couple of pics of the same type of turbo one damaged the other not. The pics are taken by another forum member and posted here, not my car. From a RR tdv8 twin turbo. Both swapped out.
