I can pick a shed series landy from a further distance
Than I can an esky full of beer

The old 75/78/79 can sometimes give a false alarm at 500m but inside of that and I’m ready to wave

    I know me
I’ll wave to the 2020chicksdefender about as much as I bother to wave at evoques

Besides, according to some they will sell more new defenders than hiluxes
Your arms will fall off if you wave at all of them!!

Daz, I realise a lot of Tdci drivers were newbies to the marque, I lived in Canberra for a few years and they were the on-trend vehicle to have for the bearded hipsters!

I still wave to the sheds on wheels but hardly anyone waves back these days!

Half the time I'm in a Disco and they aren't expecting it and the rest of the time I'm in a Lolux...Will it deserve the Defender wave? Will it deserve the Defender wave?

Does this happen every time there’s a change; Td5, Puma, Pretender oops, I mean new Defender.......
Tdci drivers are going fast, but they’re so stressed at the cost of keeping a Ford hybrid on the road, they have little energy left to wave.....
Now for the popcorn Will it deserve the Defender wave?

Rangie classics are still pretty consistent, and also get a fair level of waves between fenders and rangie classics, the more modified the better the chances of getting a wave it seems Will it deserve the Defender wave?

The Series / Defender wave is all about the iconic nature of the vehicles. The small batch, handbuilt design classic, driven largely by discerning people who appreciate that, value it and don’t follow the crowd. The shared experience of owning such a vehicle is entirely different to driving a bland mass production SUV.

The new Defender will have to be extraordinarily unique to attain the same iconic status. But then it probably won’t sell in large numbers...and this is it’s only chance of getting a wave IMO. I doubt a mass produced SUV reincarnation of Defender will get many waves. Especially if it sells in the massive mainstream volumes some are predicting. It will be just another vehicle on the road. It won’t be special anymore.

In fact I predict Classic Defenders / Series will get even more waves come 2020.

Thankfully mass production and big profits are not everything in this world...although sometimes my faith in the power of unique quality is sorely tested.
