300Tdi - rear door will not open

    Hi all

The rear door on my 300Tdi is stuck closed. I installed a new handle mechanism about six months ago and has worked fine until now. The key goes in the lock but will not turn to the left or the right. The leaver will not move. If I clamber over the rear seats to the inside the leaver here moves up and down but doesn’t appear to have any load/resistance on it. The little lock latch will not move.

It seems to me as though the mechanism has failed somehow.

Yes it does have the spare on the back, I have removed this and it makes no difference.

Any ideas how I can fix without the door being open?

    Cheers - Simon

    Hi Simon

So does your rear door handle have a key?

I have used a coat hanger wire down through the window scraper seal and lifted the lock mechanism to open a defender front door, I am sure you can use the same technique on the back

    Thanks 86mud

This is the rear or back door with the wiper. So quite different from the other doors.

Down is unlocked. If it is broken you’ll need to break it open to free the latch.

Make sure the replacement is OEM.

Thanks red90. This is an OEM one and should have lasted more than 6 months!

If it is only six months it will have warranty.

Just a thought but have you tried applying downward pressure on the inside lever while simultaneously having someone else outside operating key? May need to tap the lock with a hammer at the same time.

Thanks xtreme. Good thought, not tried that. Will find a volunteer :-)

Am taking this vehicle to the club garage day in Sunday so maybe a volunteer or two there..
