G'day All,
I am interested in hearing from people who have put a County/Defender 110 station wagon body onto a Perentie chassis. It would appear from a NSW certification/registration perspective it is easier than trying to certify a 4BD1 engine into a 2001 build Defender (emission issues).
I am considering doing this, but keeping the R380/LT230 and mating this to a 4BD1T (changing the high range gear set in the LT230). I will swap over my Defender's front and rear axles to the Perentie chassis.
As I see it, the key issues are associated with the differences in the Perentie chassis (widened at the rear for the mounting of the underbody spare wheel) and the fuel tank(s). Preferably I want to use the area where the spare is mounted for a larger fuel tank (the Perentie's are relatively small and I want to use the side rail for the mounting of a 60ltr water tank).
Are there any other issues I am missing?
Thanks

What's the issues with sticking a 4bd1 into a 2001 defender??? You can fit one into one up to 2005.
Pretty sure Jason Bell (Fubar) on here has a thread on doing his in his td5 130, have a look through the Isuzu landy group threads.
The engineer I spoke with in NSW, was having issues with fitting the 4BD1 (which I believe ended production in the mid 1990s) into a vehicle manufactured in 2001 which met higher emission standards EU2(?) with its original Td5?
I intend to get another opinion, but it seems fitting a 4BD1 into a Td5 is more problematic than doing a body swap onto a Perentie chassis (plus I also get a gal chassis if I go the Perentie chassis option). I think it would be easier fitting a 4BD1 with a Defender Tdi.

Hi, I think KLR is doing a 4BDIT into a previoulsy TD5 extreme so they would not do this without eng approval and there are RMS engineers in their area who are very familiar with LR's, as also near DPL. Am sure they could give you the good oil.![]()
Thanks all. I will speak with KLR.

I wrote up a long reply to your PM but the forum timed out before I could send it.
In short, no; besides marrying up the td5 loom with the Perentie chassis loom there aren't really other issues you're missing. Don't be fooled into thinking the job is easy, though. The work is mostly simple but there's mountains of it; you are basically taking the vehicle completely to pieces and reassembling it. I have hundreds of photos of the process and my memory is probably still reasonable, so if you have specific questions let me know.
I guess the important thing is that I never regret doing this conversion to my vehicle and I'd do it again tomorrow if that's what it took to have the 110 I have.
Pictures, because everybody loves pictures:

I thought why would you even bother, till I saw your photos Dervish , Thats a fabulous 110 you have there.
