These should show the angle etc. also the impact on the other side.
the paint at the point of the intial burn yes, but once the ally melts the paint flakes away from the oxidised area, the skin of the ally remains sort of intact (its ally oxide) and as it cools maintains the deformed hole shape like a crater until the ember passes through the liquid ally then flows out the ally oxide cools and as it all contracts you get cracks.

Not that I was aware of. But interestingly our farm manager found two dead fresh roos in the paddock the next day. And none of us shot them!
But we never heard anything so I haven’t asked anyone if they were shooting. Wouldn’t want to look like I was pointing the finger at anyone.
maybe once the panel beater takes the bonnet off and peels back the second layer a further clue might be revealed.
Were the dead roos shot?
the ballistics of rifle fire are very interesting with things like first catch and first graze coming into play and can be 2000mtrs away from the rifle that fired the projectile and more.
that is two kilometres or more and the average person would not be aware of or hear the report from the rifle.
.222 , .243 , 5.56 , .308 , 7.62 mm and similar calibre are all capable of striking over that range and the person firing would have no idea that their projectile has travelled that far.
I was an Infantry Small Arms Coach and studied ballistics but its over 30yrs now and this is the first time I have tried to recall things since then.
Maybe ice from a passing jet? would have hit at terminal speed & melted away..
