Thread: Td5 defender no power at headlight switch

Hi.
just replaced a burnt out headlight switch(short stalk) and all works well. When I was there I found that there was an added wire coming from the 30a fuse under the drivers seat that was spliced into the brown blue input wire for the light switch behind the dash.
i unplugged the new wire so it's all original just to see what's going on and it has no power.
should the input wire be directly running from the fuse under the drivers seat to the light switch? If so would that mean there is a break between the 30a fuse under the seat and the light switch and that would most likely be the reason the wire was put there?

Sort of what I was thinking, but with the original wire that feeds the switch there seems to be no power even with the ignition on. Thinking maybe it failed at some stage and was just bypassed altogether.

Remember I’m only guessing that the relay has been removed.
If the relay has been removed you will not get any power at the switch, this MAY be why the other power wire was run.
If I do this type of modification I use a jumper wire with an in-line fuse where relay terminals 30 and 87 go into the relay base

The headlamp relay is no4 in the dash fuse box, see if it’s fitted or missing.


The upgrade to having relays fitted for the headlights is well worth doing.
Improved voltages give better lighting from the headlights and reduce the amps through the stalk switch’s.
This won’t cure your no power issue but will save having to change the indicator/high/low storm due to burnt contacts.
