Thread: 300tdi Defender Steering Box

Dear brains trust. I have an issue with my steering box. When on right lock the pitman arm has a lot of play (rotational not spline wear). As I turn to straight ahead the play disappears. There is no play turning left.
When driving on a bumpy road with a reasonable right bend the steering wheel can go into a violent shake. I have to near pull over to stop it.
In the straight ahead position there is no play in the steering wheel to front wheel movement.
Just need a few opinions before sourcing a replacement box.

I had a similar problem with shaking, traced to panhard bushes flogged out. No idea on steering box issues though. Good luck.
