    Puma rear crossmember rust

    Hi all

Light surface rust is starting to appear on parts of the rear crossmember on our 2012 Puma. I have noticed this on a number of other Pumas, but fortunately so far it is not too bad on ours. It brushes off if you wipe your hand over it.

I was wondering what folk have been doing to address this problem, short of having the crossmember professional repainted which i don't wish to do yet? We had to have the safari windows removed and the roof repainted a couple of years ago due to corrosion, there was no undercoat on the roof at all, so I suspect the same high quality process has been applied here!

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers - Simon

Common issue on all Defender models 2007 on wards.
Clean it up, wire brush, hand or on a angle grinder and tape up, paint it with some fav black paint from your fav paint shop.
    Regards

I resprayed my 2010 Puma with something or other, can't for the life of me remember it's name but it stopped that surface rust and looked good. Just another example of Ford bodgy workmanship to save a buck or two.

The paint on my '95 Defender went the same way on the rear crossmember so no reason to blame Ford.

Sanded, masked up the body and used a rattle can. Still holding up many years later.

I like blaming Ford..... yes a rattle can is what I used as well. 3 coats of a matt black stuff did a great job, much better than my paint brush.

    Thanks Colin

My two older defenders are fine, just the usual stone chips but certainly no rust on them on the crossmember.
