    Swivel seats (like in a campervan)

    Hi all,

    I did a search for rotating seats and checked through the first 10 pages of hits in the search to no avail before posting.

    I'm checking who has fitted rotating/swivel seats into their 2-door 110, Perentie, NA110 etc similar to those used in campervans? (I'm assuming the rear tub guard behind the seats has been removed)
    If you have done it please let me know the swivel system used and what type of seats were used as well.
    I'm asking as I'm in the planning stage of an overlander conversion.

    PS I have a Perentie but thought posting in the general 110 area might get me more responses

    Transmission tunnel and gear stick wouldn’t assist with swiveling....oh and steering wheel as you’ll have to lift your legs up to the tuck position.

    I'm assuming you'd be standing outside when you turn the seats around then access them from the rear cargo area so no worry with the knees.

    My concern is like you mentioned, having enough room to swivel without being blocked by the hand brake (which could be disengaged for the task if needed) and the door/b-pillar. I think the transmission tunnel should be okay as you're up on the higher seat box and a Perentie has no centre console. I've seen van ones that pivot and swivel but ideally I'd rather learn from existing experience than be the guinea pig :-)

    Didn’t realize you were not going to be sitting in the seat when you rotate.

    Just having a look at mine....the inner guard I.e. where the rear seat bolt onto is a lot higher than the front seat base.

    Thanks, I had a good chuckle when I followed the link as it was this very same video that prompted me to ask the question. :-)
    Am hoping that someone here has done it it their 90/110.

    For years I have thought this would be a great addition to an overland - I can't believe that it hasn't been done before. Yes it maybe be a little squishy during the 10sec rotation, but once rotated it could open up some great options for dining etc - especially for a pop top converted Defender.

    I will be following this thread with great interest as I would be very keen to install swivel bases to my overland build!

    You will need to adjust the seat back to vertical but will there be enough room as the door sits pretty close to the seat, the perentie does have door cards so some gains there.

    Once swiveled will there be enough room to adjust the seat back back..I.e. toward the steering wheel.

    On the perentie not only will you need to remove the bulk head but you also need to address the inner guard thingy/part in the cargo area

    Overall I don’t see any real benefit given the effort involved.

    We have a 110HT with Poptop fitted, we think seating at the back is better use of space.

    The front seats in a Dormobile fold down so the back of the seat becomes the base and the base the back (they also fold down to make a bed).



    Dormobile are back in business but don't make the seats, I guess getting them approved would be a problem nowadays.

    Would installing swivel seats require 'engineering' ? We had a Mitsubishi Delica a few years back that had swiveling captains chairs, probably a bit big to fit in a Defender. The second row bench seat swiveled as well.
