If it doesn't have gas the clutch wont kick in, there will be a pressure switch you could short out to test if the clutch engages.

Hello gents
The air conditioning has stopped in the puma. From what I can gather it wont send a signal to the compressor clutch until the fan starts. I have power at the fan switch, all the ac and fan fuses are ok, is there a fan relay under the dash or drivers seat I can check? Cant seem to find anything other than fuse identification in the book
TIA
Ian

Are you talking Evap fan?
If its not running, compresser won't run,all cars are like that.
Hi Paul
Yep, the evap fan seems to stop and start at will, when it stops ( whatever speed selector its on) the compressor
stops. The trouble is in the control circuit, but I dont get into car air, so looking for advice on where to look. I have
read there is a thermistor up behind the dash somewhere that is in the control circuit, do you know where it is, or
do you have any ideas on what could make the fan work intermittently? One thing I have noticed, dont know if its
just me, but the fan speed selector switch has very little resistance between speeds when sliding it. I do have 12v
on the 3 terminals on the right and I think the left hand terminal on the fan switch plug is the neutral if I'm correct?
Thx Ian

hi ian
there is a thermostat on the evaporator in the dash this was causing a lot of problems with a/c
give me a call and in the mean time I will look up the schematic
So the evap fan has an issue, need to trace the power when its playing up,i know easier said than done.
The thermostat should only stop the compresser clutch, same as pressure switches.
I would start with the fan switch if it feels a bit dicky, but a wiring schematic would be helpful.
Managed to get the plug out of the fan motor. 12v there. Power comes from the battery thru the 30 amp fuse under the dash,
through 60 amp link under seat, to fan motor then to the resistor which controls the speed through the resistance. Put 12v
straight to the fan motor, zip, nada, sweet bugger all. Fan motor is ted's brother, just in time for the heat to hit. Sweating
like Rolf Harris at a wiggles concert atm. Thx God I'm not in Cairns. Got one on order, hopefully arrives later this week.
