not so, the winch extension is to allow you to get the length on the snatchblock, not to remote the snatch block. Snatch blocks should be mounted to whatever they are going to pull (or pull against) with a chain or strap rated to the capacity of the snatch block (which is always going to be at least 2x the max line pull of the winch)Quote:

My ex Telstra 130 came equipped with a 9500kg Warn winch. The vehicle in camping form weighs around 3500kg's and I have had no trouble recovering it on a few occasions with that winch. Sometimes with a snatch block and other times a straight line pull.
On my Disco 3 I have recovered my 100HP 6ton plus tractor bogged 40cm deep a couple of times, A direct pull was not good enough on one occasion and a snatch block resolved the situation easily. The winch was an ALDI unit rated at 9000lbs and worked well. The Defender has a Supercheap unit rated at 12000lbs but I've not yet tried to pull anything heavy enough to require a snatch block (and we've had no rain so no bogged tractor)
I would also agree with Dorian that if you can't move it with a snatch block it's probably not your problem.

I have found it helpful when using a snatch block especially on the beach to bog yourself down to anchor yourself in and simply use the vehicle that you are recovering to get out after the recovery is complete.
Also making sure that you have most of the cable/rope out during the pull gives you the most power from your winch (regardless of brand) and only run the winch for a few seconds at a time to preserve the winch is also a good idea.
have a look at the Runva ewx9500_Q EVO - 80:1 ratio (standard Warn 8274 is about 123:1), so plenty quick and is low mount (no blocking the radiator)
Another vote for the Runva. ..nice and quick...pulled the ar#! out of the D2A and as quick as a high mount too.!
More pulling power usually means the winch is much slower.

So from what I’m reading, if I can get it to fit, my old Thomas 8000HC (electric & hand crank) with a block, shovel and high lift should be plenty for my D4. Heading to Cape York mid next year with the 1.7t camper but we don’t plan on going crazy extreme with it.
Just check the dimensions match within the limits of a Warn 9500 and you should be fine.Quote:

Thanks. I know that getting it to fit will be a challenge. I wasn’t going to put a bullbar in this car but I’m not seeing any way around it. Hopefully a bullbar with a custom made Winch cradle, and some bullbar modifications and it will fit. It’d be a shame to sell it, it’s a great winch.Quote:
