    1998 Defender 130 LH headlight keeps blowing fuse

    Hi all

    Over the past few years, my LH headlight would occasionally blow a fuse. I replaced the headlight switch and that seemed to make the problem go away for a bit (say months at a time). Then it did it again, so I cleaned the connection at the headlight. Still blew fuse occasionally.

    So a few weeks ago I purchased the traxide headlight wiring upgrade kit and installed that. After the install I tested the lights and everything worked.

    Then last night I was in the car and the fuse kept blowing. 6 fuses later, I just limped home using back streets

    So I have ordered another headlight switch (just to ensure that is not faulty) and will start pulling dash apart tonight chasing the wiring.

    Quick question - which way does the current flow? Does the current go through the fuse first, then the headlight switch then to the headlight?

    Just trying work out where I start looking.

    Maybe as simple as a faulty globe. Pop it out and have a look at the filaments or swap left to right and see if same fuse blows.

    Well, I've replaced both bulbs, replaced the headlight switch and tried to check the wires behind the fuse box - not much room to move in there.

    Now both headlights are not working. I have high beam , but no low beam.. LH low beam still keep blowing the fuse and the RH low beam doesn't work at all. Fuse is fine.

    Starting to pull my hair out!


    Would there be a factory relay behind the dash for the low beam?

    Check the back of the headlight where the bulb fitting goes for rust stains that can track power to earth.

    The fault was somewhere in the wiring harness behind the dash. Cleaned up all connections and all seems to be good now,
